Defending champions Mumbai Indians after losing three back to back matches finally tasted success by defeating visitors Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Wankhede Stadium. The Rohit Sharma-led side outplayed Virat Kohli’s group by 46 runs. With this win, MI open their account on the IPL 2018 points table. Earlier, put to bat Mumbai Indians got off to a worst possible start with pacer Umesh Yadav accounting for Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan on the first two deliveries of the match.
Rohit Sharma along with Evin Lewis then not only took Mumbai out of the initial slump but led the counterattack as well. The duo played shots at will and added valuable 108 runs for the third wicket before Lewis was dismissed on an individual score of 65 runs off 42 balls.
However, skipper Rohit kept going as he took Mumbai past 200-run mark. He was eventually dismissed on penultimate delivery of MI innings on well made 94 off 52 balls. All-rounder Hardik Pandya too played his part by slamming 17 runs off just five balls towards the end.
Mumbai will now face Rajasthan Royals on April 22 in Jaipur. RCB, on the other hand, take on Delhi Daredevils at home on April 21.
