MI vs RCB Highlights, VIVO IPL 2021: Royal Challengers Bangalore Beat Mumbai Indians by Two Wickets

Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Mumbai Indians by two wickets to begin their IPL 2021 journey in style while the defending champions have yet again lost the opening matches of their IPL season. This is now the ninth straight season Mumbai Indians have lost the opening match of their IPL season. 

Harshal Patel and Mohammed Siraj take a quick single despite Jasprit Bumrah's superb fielding at short fine leg. RCB win the match off the final ball with two wickets remaining. Mumbai Indians once again lose their opening match.

OUT! AB de Villiers is run out with RCB still two runs short of victory. There was no two runs there. But De Villiers had to go for it and in the end loses his wicket. ERCB needs two from two deliveries with Mohammed Siraj and Harshal Patel at the crease.

OUT! Kyle Jamieson has sacrificed his wicket to bring AB de Villiers to the strike. Jamieson smashes it hard and straight down the ground at the bowler. Bumrah stops it with his leg and then removed the bails with Jamieson well short of his crease. Jamieson run out (Bumrah) 4(4)

OUT! Jasprit Bumrah returns to the attack and removes Daniel Christian to bring Mumbai Indians back in the contest. OUT! Marco Jansen has picked his maiden IPL wicket and it's the Big Show. Glenn Maxwell departs after pulling to Chris Lynn at short fine-leg. Lynn takes a fine diving catch. The ball was there to be hit but Maxwell failed to read the pace of the ball and mistimed it. Maxwell c Chris Lynn b Marco Jansen 39(28)

OUT! Jasprit Bumrah strikes but is it all too late. Virat Kohli is trapped plumb in front of the wicket. The RCB captain had shuffled a bit too much towards the off-stump and is struck right in the middle. Royal Challengers Bangalore are well placed at the halfway stage of their innings. RCB are on 75/2 with Virat Kohli (29) and Glenn Maxwell (18) at the crease and looking good so far in their 35-run stand.

OUT! Trent Boult now strikes and gets the wicket of debutant Rajat Patidar. The Madhya Pradesh cricketer looked good during his brief stay at the crease. But he failed to read the knuckle ball from Boult and thick-edged the ball into his stumps. Rajat Patidar b Boult 8(8)

Washington Sundar has stepped out to open the batting for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Mumbai Indians. Kohli and Sundar have given RCB a quick start with 21 runs in just 3 overs. 

Harshal Patel ran through Mumbai Indians' middle-order with a five-wicket haul as MI have been restricted to 159/9 despite a stellar start. The right-arm pacer bowled exceptionally in the end overs as Mumbai couldn't get going in the final few overs.

OUT! Ishan Kishan departs while going for a big shot as Mumbai Indians lose half their side. Just like Pandya, the southpaw couldn't read a straight ball from Harshan Patel and was adjudged out LBW. Ishan Kishan lbw b Harshal Patel 28(19)

Another one bites the dust as RCB are back in the hunt. Washington Sundar dismisses Chris Lynn in his first over to dent the defending champions further. The Australian dasher failed to time a big shot and Sundar took a catch off his own bowling. Chris Lynn c and b Washington Sudar 49(35)

Suryakumar Yadav departs after playing a short but impressive cameo as Kyle Jamieson gets his maiden wicket in IPL. It was a short ball from the Kiwi pacer which Yadav knicked to AB de Villiers behind the stumps. Rohit Sharma's departure brought Suryakumar Yadav to the crease and the latter has carried on from where he left in IPL 2020. He smashed his first ball for a boundary before playing some more delightful shots. Chris Lynn has also opened his arms with the scoring rate going over eight in no time.

Mumbai Indians have lost their skipper Rohit Sharma courtsey a terrible mix-up with Chris Lynn. The dashing opener wanted a double after smashing Yuzvendra Chahal's delivery at cover point. No fireworks in the first two overs of the game with Mumbai Indians openers Rohit Sharma and Chris Lynn eyeing a steady start. The duo haven't opened their arms yet and are assessing the conditions. Credit must also go to Mohammed Siraj and Kyle Jamieson for keeping things tight with the new ball.
