Openers Evin Lewis and Suryakumar Yadav helped Mumbai Indians (MI) get off to a flying start during their home game against Delhi Daredevils in the match number nine of Indian Premier League 2018 (IPL 2018). Enroute to their century opening stand, Lewis and Suryakumar, helped MI register their fastest fifty in the IPL. Not only this, the duo also took their side to their highest score in Powerplay overs.
Lewis and Suryakumar added 102 runs for the first wicket in just nine overs before the Windies batsman was dismissed. Taking full use of the fielding restrictions, both the openers played their shots right from the first over. The duo wrecked havoc and helped MI go past 50-run mark in just 3.4 overs.
Both Lewis and Suryakumar played freely and by the end of Powerplay overs, MI were 84/0. Again, their highest ever in powerplay overs of an IPL match. Interestingly, MI promoted Suryakumar as an opener for this game and the move worked for them.
Delhi Daredevils then got the relief as Rahul Tewatia removed both the MI openers in his consecutive overs. He first removed Lewis, who was caught near mid-off, on an individual score of 48 off 28 balls. He smashed four fours and as many sixes during his stay.
Suryakumar, on the other hand, was trapped in front of the wickets by Tewatia but not before registering his half-century. The right-hander slammed 32-ball 53 and hit seven fours and a six.
Meanwhile, both MI and DD are searching for their first win of the season. Mumbai lost their opening match to Chennai Super Kings and the faced another defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Delhi, on the other hand, lost to Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals.
