Chennai Super Kings (CSK) returned to Indian Premier League (IPL) with an impressive win over defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI). It was Dwayne Bravo who stole the show with his breathtaking batting. The all-rounder brought CSK back in the game with his 68 off just 30 balls. At one stage, it looked like MI will emerge as winners, but Bravo played positively to bring the equation down in CSK’s favour. After Bravo’s dismissal in the penultimate over, it was injured Kedar Jadhav who helped CSK cross the line. Needing seven from the last over, Jadhav took his time and the smashed Mustafizur Rahman for a six and a four to finish things instate for Super Kings.
Chasing 166, CSK got off to a poor start losing the top three batsmen with just 42 runs on the board. After Hardik Pandya, it was debutant Mayank Markande who had CSK in all sorts of trouble.
The former champions were reduced to 84 for six after 13 overs with Jadhav retiring hurt after pulling a hamstring. It looks all done and dusted for CSK, but Bravo kept playing his shots and eventually took his team close to MI’s total. You can watch the video highlights of MI vs CSK here.
Bravo smashed seven sixes and three fours during his stay and scored at a strike rate of 226.67. He was then dismissed on the last ball of 18th over, leaving CSK to get seven off six balls. Jadhav, who earlier pulled hamstring, came back to bat. Jadhav struggled on the first three balls, but on the fourth ball of last over he smashed Mustafizur over fine leg region for a six. Earlier, put to bat Mumbai posted 165 in their allotted 20 overs. Krunal Pandya scored 41 off just 22 balls to help his side go past 150-run mark. For CSK, Shane Watson picked two wickets while Deepak Chahar and Mark Wood chipped in with a wicket each.
Chennai Super Kings now take on Kolkata Knight Rides next on April 10 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium while Mumbai Indians face Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on April 12.
