After opting to bat first, Bangladesh were bowled out for 150 runs in the first innings. Openers Shadman Islam and Imrul Kayes failed with scoring just 6 runs each. Mushfiqur Rahim was the highest scorer for Bangladesh with 43 while skipper Mominul Haque hit 37 runs. Mohammed Shami took three wickets while Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin accounted for two wickets each.
While batting, Rohit Sharma (6) and Virat Kohli (0) failed to go big with the bat. However, Mayank Agarwal (243) and Cheteshwar Pujara (54) and Ajinkya Rahane (86) managed the Indian batting well. At the end of 106 overs, India were batting at 414 with a lead of 253 runs.
