Lucknow Super Giants vs Delhi Capitals Highlights, IPL 2023: Mark Wood, Kyle Mayers Star in LSG's 50-Run Victory

Lucknow Super Giants rode on emphatic performances from Kyle Mayers and Mark Wood to register a 50-run win over Delhi Capitals. This sort of win to kickstart a tournament is what teams look out for. The KL Rahul-led side will now have an extra headache of preparing their foreign player combination when Quinton de Kock comes back. For Delhi Capitals, a lot to work on, especially their efforts in the field, as a costly miss by Khaleel Ahmed saw Mayers make merry. On the batting front, Warner was impressive, but his knock came at a very low strike-rate by his standards. 

Mark Wood has displayed a fine show of fast bowling as his five-wicket haul has helped Lucknow Super Giants beat Delhi Capitals by 50 runs in their IPL 2023 match on Saturday. The English pacer rattled the Delhi batting order after they had a good start in their pursuit of 192. Earlier, Kyle Mayers blazed his way to an impressive 73 and some fine hitting from Nicholas Pooran (36) and Ayush Badoni (18) as Lucknow Super Giants posted 193/6.

It was fiery bouncer and Sarfaraz, while trying to duck it, attempted to guide the ball over the keeper. What a powerplay it has been. First, Delhi Capitals got off to a great start until Mark Wood came on to bowl. The England bowler, known for his raw pace, knocked over Prithvi Shaw and Mitchell Marsh off consecutive deliveries to bring Lucknow Super Giants back into the contest. David Warner is still out in the middle and a lot would rest on him now if Delhi Capitals are to win this. 

OUT! Two wickets in two balls! Just when one thought that Delhi Capitals were going on pretty well in this chase, two beautiful deliveries by Mark Wood have dented the visitors! First, it was Prithvi Shaw whose off-stump was rocked back. David Warner and Prithvi Shaw have begun proceedings for Delhi Capitals in their pursuit of 194 runs. A decent over first up for them, which yielded seven runs. 

Krishnappa Gowtham has been introduced as an Impact Player for Lucknow Super Giants with one ball remaining and the right-hander sends it over the ropes for a huge six, finishing off the innings on a high. Lucknow Super Giants have posted a very good total here with the chief contributors being Kyle Mayers (73) and Nicholas Pooran (36). For Delhi, it was not a very good outing with the ball with Khaleel Ahmed being the best, having figures of 2/30. 

Aman Khan has come on to the field as Delhi Capitals' Impact Player and he replaces Khaleel Ahmed, who has bowled his full quota of four overs, ending with figures of 2/30.

OUT! Khaleel Ahmed has struck again and at a right time, dismissing the dangerous Nicholas Pooran. The left-hander hit it straight to Prithvi Shaw on the off-side and few inches on either side, it would have been a boundary.
