Roston Chase misses out on a century here. He remains unbeaten on 98 runs as the Umpires call it STUMPS! Shai Hope, Shane Dowrich contributed a bit too. Skipper Jason Holder played a fine knock too, before getting dismissed in the fag-end of the day.

Given how they performed in the first Test match, Windies would be a much-relieved side ending the day at 295/7.

As for India, both Yadavs - Kuldeep and Umesh, picked up three wickets each. Ashwin and Jadeja could have fetched a couple of wickets had the flying edges reach the diving fielders.

Here, we end our coverage of Day 1 | PS: Virat Kohli was kissed by a fan?

12 Oct, 16:32 (IST)

Jason Holder is CAUGHT OUT! on the last ball of the 90th over. Umesh Yadav bowls a short-ball and Holder mistimes the shot and is gone after reaching a well-fought HALF-CENTURY! Rishabh Pant takes a stunning down the leg-side and the dangerously brewing stand between the two. India will be relieved to send Holder back to the dressing room.

12 Oct, 15:35 (IST)

The current partnership between Roston Chase and Jason Holder has crossed the 50-run mark. Jadeja and Ashwin are bowling in tandem with discipline. The run rate is 3.50 in the last 10 overs. West Indies have reached the 250-run mark in 80 overs.

12 Oct, 15:03 (IST)

Jason Holder and Roston Chase have been playing excellently for a while now. The strokes are coming properly off the bat and the singles have started to come. No wickets in the last five overs. The Indian bowlers are disciplined in their efforts.

12 Oct, 14:20 (IST)

Roston Chase completes his HALF-CENTURY! at the stroke of TEA break!

West Indies would not be liking the sight of the scoreboard at the moment. With six wickets down, they know they would have been a wicket or two wickets less on the scoreboard, if the shot selection was a little more appropriate.

India, on the hand, have been able to take wickets at regular intervals. They'd be happy to see the score 197/6 at TEA break.

12 Oct, 13:58 (IST)

The Indian team is bowling with a quicker bowling rate. West Indies have failed to take singles at opportune times. The edges and mistimed shots are flying here and there. Amidst all of this, Umesh Yadav picks up a wicket!

Shae Dowrich is LBW OUT! The on-field umpire didn't agree, so didn't India as they call for a REVIEW! The third umpire changes the on-field umpire decision and Shane is back walking to the pavilion. FOW: 182/6 | Shane Dowrich 30 (63). Jason Holder is the new man in.

12 Oct, 13:14 (IST)

The West Indies' batsmen have kept the run-rate of over 4 runs per over since the lunch break. Roston Chase and Shane Dowrich are looking to play positively at the moment and hitting odd boundaries on loose balls. As for India, some disciplined bowling would them a world of good at the moment. Time for DRINKS! beak.

12 Oct, 12:46 (IST)

Kuldeep Yadav picks another wicket, or rather, Sunil Ambris has thrown his wicket away. The lack of application and the art of grinding it out has hurt West Indies the most. Ambris looked to slog the ball, but the mistimed shot finds the safe hands of Ravindra Jadeja at the cover. Ambris is CAUGHT OUT! trying to break the shackles, which weren't there in the first place. FOW: 113/5 | Sunil Ambris: 18 (26). Shane Dowrich is the new man in.

Half of the Windies side are back in the hut | What's next for WI from here?

12 Oct, 12:32 (IST)

Kuldeep Yadav picks up another Windies' wicket. Shimron Hetmyer doesn't read the wrong'un and the balls thuds into his pads and is LBW!. The line of impact doesn't matter as he didn't offer a shot. West Indies are crumbling at the wrong time here. Roston Chase is the new man in. FOW: 92/4 | Shimron Hetmyer: 12 (34).

India are back into the match and would be really glad to have a wicket just after the lunch break.

12 Oct, 11:33 (IST)

West Indies players, Hope and Hetmyer, have played positively after losing both the openers. Given how the team performed in the first Test match, Windies would be happy to return to the pavilion on 86/3 at LUNCH of Day 1 of the second Test match. However, they would be ruing Hope's wicket at the stroke of lunch!

India takes a REVIEW! as Umesh Yadav trapped Hope in front of the stumps. Umpire's call at 'hitting the stumps' helps the Windies batsman as he gets a reprieve. India doesn't lose out on a review as it was the Umpire's call.

However, Umesh traps Hope in front of stumps again. WI take a REVIEW! and the Third Umpire doesn't change his decision. Umesh Yadav finally has a wicket!

12 Oct, 11:01 (IST)

West Indies lose another wicket, this time of Kraigg Brathwaite. Kuldeep Yadav picked up his first wicket of the match when he trapped Brathwaite LBW! Windies call for a REVIEW! again; however, this time the decision was not changed. A review wasted, perhaps. FOW: 52/2 | Kraigg Brathwaite: 14 (68). Shimron Hetmeyer is the new man in.

India are right back into the match after being outplayed in the first hour!

12 Oct, 10:26 (IST)

Kieran Powell throws his wicket away as he is CAUGHT OUT! Powell steps out of the crease, Ashwin sees it and shortens his length. Jadeja takes a simple catch at the covers. Shai Hope is the new man in. FOW: 32/1 | Kieran Powell 22 (30).

Kuldeep Yadav is brought into the attack | No update on Shardul Thakur yet.

12 Oct, 10:21 (IST)

West Indies survives a scare. After being adjudged LBW! by the on-field umpire, Kieran Powell calls for a REVIEW! The third umpire overturns the decision and Windies are safe! Both Powell and Brathwaite have played exceptionally well in the first hour!

12 Oct, 10:00 (IST)

Umesh Yadav began with the new ball for India. For West Indies, Kraigg Braithwaite and Kieran Powell begin the innings.

Yadav bowls a couple of stray deliveries on which Windies' batsmen hit FOURs! Shardul, who is making his Test debut, has pulled a hamstring (of sorts) and is accompanied out of the field with the physio.

A good start for West Indies though!

12 Oct, 09:12 (IST)

Youngster Prithvi Shaw scored a century, captain Virat Kohli continued to amass runs, Ravindra Jadeja joined the fun by scoring a hundred too – the Indian batting looked far more comfortable batting at Rajkot than ever in recent months.

In the bowling department too, the Indian spinners had a great match, as 16 of 20 Windies’ wickets were shared among R Ashwin, R Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav. To dismiss the West Indies line-up twice for below-par average scores was quite a testimony to the fact that India’s reserve bowlers are up and ready too!
