India, sans Virat Kohli, had to grind deeper to secure a win in the first Twenty20 International (T20I) on Sunday. Eventually, it was Dinesh Karthik’s calm and Krunal Pandya’s swift reading of the match that saw India canter home to victory, without any further hassles. It will be interesting to see how situations pan out in the second T20I which will take place on November 6, at the Ekana International Cricket Stadium Bharat Ratan Atal Bihari Vajpayee International Cricket Stadium.

India will be aiming to wrap the series with a win in the second T20I, whereas, West Indies would be looking to stay relevant in the three-match series with a victory.

The Windies batsmen failed miserably as they could only post 109 runs on the board for the loss of 8 wickets. Fabian Allen top-scored for them as he scored 27 runs. New additions in the side – Denesh Ramdin, Kieron Pollard, Darren Bravo, and Carlos Brathwaite – failed to provide a boost too.

Windies’ only saving face in the night, Oshane Thomas, ripped through Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan’s defence and sent an early scare in the Indian camps. Brathwaite couldn’t shine with the bat, but bowled excellently with the ball taking two crucial wickets of KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant.

However, it was Dinesh Karthik and Krunal Pandya’s hard-knit partnership in the end that saw India emerge victorious in the match by 5 wickets.
