Lasith Malinga Gets Australian Residency; Sri Lankan Bowler May Take Up Coaching Assignment Post Retirement - Reports

Lasith Malinga who was last seen in action during the CWC 2019, is soon planning to retire from international cricket. According to a website, Island Cricket, the pacer will make an announcement after their series against Bangladesh. Malinga plans to settle down in Australia as he has obtained a permanent residency of the country. Malinga intends to move to Australia along with his family and has already spoken about his decision of retirement to chief selector Asthana de Mel.  A source told the website, “He may also take up coaching assignment in Australia.” Malinga will be back to Sri Lanka on July 22 and the series against Bangladesh will begin on July 26, 2019.

Talking about the series, Sri Lanka will play three ODIs and Dimuth Karunarathna will be leading the team. All the three matches will be played at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Just after Sri Lanka’s ouster from CWC 2019, Maliga had hinted about his retirement. "If they match my vision, I will stay, or I will quit the international arena soon. After the World Cup, I would love to play a match in Sri Lanka and say goodbye,” Malinga had said.
