Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins won the toss at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and chose to bat first. After the fall of three early wickets, Aiden Markram tried to build a partnership with Nitish Kumar Reddy and put up a stand of 26 runs off 16 balls for the fourth wicket. However, the partnership didn't last long, as Reddy had to depart for 13 runs off Harshit Rana. With four wickets down, Aiden Makram and Heinrich Klaasen were the last reliable batting pair left for SRH. The duo tried their best to take their team out of trouble and added 15 runs for the fifth wicket. Though, just like the match the partnership didn't last long and both the set batsmen were dismissed by the KKR bowlers.
