The 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup was held by three Asian countries-India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh and it was the tenth edition of the tournament. Participating Teams and Format: There were ten full-time members in India, Australia, South-Africa, West Indies, England, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Pakistan and Bangladesh. In addition, there were four associate nations that took part in the competition- Kenya, Netherlands, Ireland and Canada. Semi-Finalists: The tournament being held in Asia had a huge bearing on the performance of the Asian teams. Three out of the four finalists were Asians, with Pakistan taking on India in the first semis followed by New Zealand clashing with Sri Lanka. Winner: India were set a target of 275 by Sri Lanka who rode on a Mahela Jayawardene century to put up a challenging score. In reply, India lost Virender Sehwag on the very first ball of the game but then MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir played steadily in the middle to help their team win. Dhoni’s match-winning six is one of the most iconic moments of Indian cricket.
