World Cup cricket returned to England after a gap of 16 years as they played host to the 1999 ICC Cricket World Cup along with a few games conducted in Wales, Scotland, Ireland and Netherlands. The month-long cricketing extravaganza saw the biggest names of cricket descend in the UK between 14th May and 20th June. Participating Teams and Format: The nine participating full members were India, South Africa, West Indies, New Zealand, Australia, Pakistan, England, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. Kenya, Scotland and debutants Bangladesh were part of the associate teams to make it to the competition. The 12 teams were divided into two pools with the top three teams advancing to the super six. In this stage, the qualified teams from Pool A met their counterparts from Pool B. Semi-Finalists: New Zealand played Pakistan in the first semi-final in Manchester which the men in green won convincingly. Chasing a target of 242, Pakistan reached home with nine wickets to spare. The second semi-final saw the South Africans play Australia in a game that to this date has no parallels in terms of drama.
