During the fifth and final Test between India and England, KL Rahul equalled Rahul Dravid’s record of most catches in a Test series for India. Rahul took a superb catch near mid-on to dismiss Stuart Broad on day two of the Oval Test. The catch was Rahul’s 13th of this series and with it he equalled Dravid’s feat achieved against Australia in 2004-05 during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, it is Australia’s Jack Gregory who holds the overall record with 15 catches. Gregory took 15 catches during the 1920-21 Ashes at home. Gregory is followed by another Australian Greg Chappell, who took 14 catches against England in the 1974-75 Ashes. Meanwhile, Rahul now becomes the first player to take 13 catches in a Test series in England.

The 26-year-old will have an opportunity to better the Indian and overall record during England’s second innings. While Rahul is contributing in the field, his contribution with the bat remains a worrying factor for India. Rahul was dismissed for 37 in India’s first innings at the Oval. The right-handed batsman started on an aggressive note and looked in no fear to play his shots. However, he once again failed to convert the start into a big knock.
