KKR vs SRH IPL 2024 Final Stat Highlights: Mitchell Starc, Venkatesh Iyer Star As Dominant Kolkata Knight Riders Cruise to Third IPL Title Win
Shreyas Iyer and his team bossed the IPL 2024 final against Sunrisers Hyderabad and beat them considerably easily by eight wickets. KKR had earlier won the title in 2012 and 2014.
Kolkata Knight Riders had a night to remember for a long time. The Shreyas Iyer-led outfit would never have expected to have such a one-sided win in the IPL 2024 final as they brushed aside Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets to win the title at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on May 26. This win marks Gautam Gambhir's successful return to the KKR unit, this time as a mentor and also heralds the growth of Shreyas Iyer the captain, who was exceptional in his role as skipper. After a wait of 10 long years, KKR won the IPL title, having won it earlier in 2012 and 2014. Sunrisers Hyderabad on the other hand, would hope to put this performance behind as they finish runners-up to a season where they have been one of the most explosive outfits. Pat Cummins won the toss and Sunrisers Hyderabad chose to bat first, with the Australian hoping that the explosive batters on his side would deliver the goods. But the script was eerily similar to that of Qualifier 1. Mitchell Starc, running in with the new ball, struck in his first over and this time, it was Abhishek Sharma, who saw his off-stump pegged back with a beautiful delivery. Vaibhav Arora then removed Travis Head and Starc ended Rahul Tripathi's stay at the crease, leaving Sunrisers Hyderabad at 21/3 at one stage. This was a setback from which SRH did not recover as wickets continued to fall. Nitish Reddy (20), Shahbaz Ahmed (8) and Abdul Samad (8) all departed for low scores and Harshit Rana dismissing Heinrich Klaasen probably struck the nail in the coffin for the Sunrisers. Skipper Cummins' 25 off 19 balls helped SRH get to a total of some sort, which is the lowest ever in an IPL final. KKR Celebrate IPL 2024 Title Win
Chasing 114 was never going to be too much of a tough ask for KKR and the batters showed just why. Sunil Narine departed early after hitting a six and Sunrisers Hyderabad would have hoped for more breakthroughs, which could have kept alive their hopes of an unlikely comeback in the match. But out came Venkatesh Iyer all guns blazing as he took the attack to the SRH bowlers from the outset and did not let them settle down at all. The left-hander was superb in Qualifier 1 as well and in the final, brought out some fine shots, especially down the ground to always keep KKR ahead. He stitched a 91-run stand with Rahmanullah Gurbaz (39) and hit the winning run, having scored a 26-ball 52.
