‘Homecoming’ for Gautam Gambhir did not prove to be productive as Delhi Daredevils were handed a 71-run defeat by Kolkata Knight Riders in the 13th match of Indian Premier League 2018 (IPL 2018). This was Knight Riders’ seventh win at home against Daredevils. In fact, KKR have not a match against DD at Eden Gardens since 2012. Daredevils for the most part of their chase looked out of sorts, especially after losing half the side for just 97 runs. Except for 62-run partnership between Rishabh Pant and Glenn Maxwell, Delhi’s batting failed miserably. Maxwell, who slammed 47 off 22 balls, was top-scorer for his side while Pant managed 43. Earlier, put to bat KKR lost Narine early. However, Chris Lynn and Robin Uthappa added 55 runs for the second wicket as the duo took full use of the Powerplay overs. Left-handed batsman Nitish Rana was the star with the bat for Knight Riders as he smashed 35-ball 59. Andre Russell too chipped in with 41 off 12 balls. For Delhi, Rahul Tewatia picked three wickets while Trent Boult and Chris Morris scalped two wickets each.
KKR now take on Rajasthan Royals in an away game on April 19 while DD face Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 21.
