Gautam Gambhir returns to Eden Gardens but in different colours. The former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain is now in charge of Delhi Daredevils (DD). Knight Riders are all set to host Daredevils in the 13th match of Indian Premier League 2018 (IPL 2018). Earlier at IPL auction, Delhi snapped Gambhir for Rs. 2.80 crore and KKR let go their captain without trying to retain him. However, KKR's CEO Venky Mysore later said that Gambhir had himself requested for the 'switch'. "He was very much in our plans for the auctions, RTM, but he had a conversation with us well before. He felt that there might be a different challenge before (him), we don't know what it was. And (he) requested if we would refrain from bidding for him or using Right to Match. And we said we will never come in the way of anyone's progress or anyone's aspirations. We're sorry to see him go, seven great years,” said Mysore. KKR vs DD, IPL 2018 Match Preview
Gambhir upon reaching Kolkata, posted a video on Twitter and wrote, “The air smells familiar, faces look friendly, from ‘Gauti paaji’ all of a sudden I’ve become ‘Gautam Da’.....am I at my erstwhile home?”

Meanwhile, as Delhi play KKR for the first time this season it will be interesting to whether the crowd at Eden Gardens cheers for their former captain or not. Interestingly, Knight Riders won both their IPL titles under Gambhir’s leadership. The left-hander’s contribution to franchise’s success cannot be discarded.
Both Knight Riders and Daredevils are in similar position, having lost two out of three matches. KKR won their opening match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) but then lost to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
Daredevils, on the other hand, suffered defeats in their opening two matches against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) before notching their first win of the season against Mumbai Indians (MI).
