In the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), Kolkata Knight Riders will be looking to add the third title to their cabinet. The 2012 and 2014 winners, however, will be without their most successful captain Gautam Gambhir this year. The left-hander was bought by Delhi Daredevils (DD) at the IPL 2018 auction and thus had to part ways with KKR.
Knight Riders was the least active team at the IPL 2018 auctions and interestingly, went for India Under-19 cricketers like Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Shivam Mavi, and Shubman Gill. However, proven match-winners like Robin Uthappa, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn are still in their ranks.
Moreover, they managed to bring in Australian pace duo of Mitchell Starc and Mitchell Johnson. KKR will also have the services of experienced wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik, who is likely to captain the side.
KKR will open their campaign against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on the second day of IPL 2018, which will be their home game. In their first away game of the season, KKR will take on Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Knight Riders will play seven matches at Eden Gardens which apparently has been their home venue from the inaugural season. Interestingly, 11 out of 14 KKR’s matches are scheduled at 8:00 pm and mostly on weekends, so that most fans attend these games.
