West Indies’ skipper Kieron Pollard is known to be a street smart cricketer and another glimpse of his cleverness was witnessed in the 3rd and final Afghanistan vs West Indies ODI. The all-rounder smartly avoided delivering a no-ball by hearing the call from the umpire. The skipper introduced himself in the 25th over of the first innings when Afghanistan were reeling at 74/4. Pollard took his run and was just about to bowl his first delivery but suddenly heard a loud shout of no-ball by umpire Ahmed Shah Durrani and pulled out in the last second. Talking about the match, West Indies won the toss and invited Afghanistan to bat first. The decision proved to be right as the Afghans could only manage 249 runs in the first innings. In reply, Shai Hope mustered a brilliant century and smoothened the run chase. Pollard also played a handy cameo of 32 runs off just 26 deliveries and guided his team to a five-wicket victory.

The Windies also emerged victorious in the first two clashes of the series and thus clinch the series 3-0. It was Pollard’s first assignment as West Indies’ full-time ODI captain and the 32-year old succesfully repaid the selector's trust.
