Karunanidhi Death: TNPL 2018 Qualifier 1, Eliminator Cancelled, New Schedule & Dates to be Announced Soon

Due to the demise of M Karunanidhi, the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL ) 2018’s Qualifier 1 and eliminator has been cancelled.

Due to the demise of M Karunanidhi, the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL ) 2018’s Qualifier 1 and eliminator has been cancelled. The Qualifier 1 was to be played on Tuesday between Dindigul Dragons and Siechem Madurai Panthers. The eliminator contest which was scheduled to be played today on Wednesday between Lyca Kovai Kings and Karaikudi Kaala was also cancelled. The former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu left for the heavenly abode on Tuesday evening at 6.10 PM at the Kauvery hospital in Chennai.

The official account of TNPL confirmed the news on social media and wrote, “Today's Qualifier 1 Match between Dindigul Dragons and Siechem Madurai Panthers, has been abandoned due to demise of former Tamil nadu Chief Minister Kalaignar Dr. M Karunanidhi."

Also, Tomorrow's Eliminator match between the Lyca Kovai Kings and iDream Karaikudi Kaalai has been cancelled. Qualifier 1 and Eliminator will be rescheduled to a later date which will be announced shortly," TNPL informed on Twitter.

A few days ago, the former captain of India, MS Dhoni was spotted in one of the TNPL matches. Dhoni promised to get better at Tamil by IPL 2019. “What brings me here is the TNPL (Tamil Nadu Premier League), of course, to start off. Every time I play IPL, I learn Tamil and once the tournament ends I have to start from scratch again. I will make sure that by next edition of IPL, I’ll learn a bit of Tamil,” PTI quoted Dhoni as saying.

Dhoni also stated Tirunelveli is a special place for him. “Also this is a special place, this is where India Cements started. I have been with them (India Cements) for a long time so, this gives me an opportunity to come and see the first Plant over here,” he added. “Along with that, every year I come down and watch a few games of the TNPL, this is the first game I will be watching this year in person. Looks like challenging conditions here with the kind of breeze blowing,” he further added.
