Bengaluru, January 22: The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) was slapped with a fine of Rs 50,000 by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for use of banned single use-plastic and flexes (short posters made of plastic) in Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy stadium during the third ODI between India and Australia. The KSCA will have to furnish the amount as the municipal body of Bengaluru found plastic cups after the match. However, the spokesperson of the Karnataka State Cricket Association, Vinay Mrithyunjaya, said that use of plastic cups was banned at the stadium and added that he doesn't know how the municipal body found plastic cups. The spokesperson was quoted saying by the Times of India that the stadium authority has asked for a detailed report on the incident.
The plastic fine added a bitter taste to the sweet Sunday that witnessed the Men in Blue winning the series by defeating Australia in the series decider. India defeated Australia in third and final One-Day International (ODI) by eight wickets at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Set a target of 287, India, thanks to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s superb batting, achieved it in 47.3 overs. While Rohit scored his 29th ODI century, Kohli was dismissed on impressive 89. Nonetheless, Kohli made sure he stayed in the middle for as long as possible and Shreyas Iyer added the finishing touches to help India reach home comfortably.
