Rohit Sharma slammed a maiden hundred on debut as an opening batsman for India in Test cricket and it seems that Jofra Archer knew it six years back. The 32-year-old, who last played a Test match in December 2018, completed his fourth Test century on the Day 1 of the first Test against South Africa at Visakhapatnam. Rohit also became the fourth Indian batsman to slam a hundred in his first innings as a Test opener thereby joining the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul and Prithvi Shaw. Fans immediately found Prophet Archer’s connection to Rohit’s milestone, which dated back to almost six years. India Vs South Africa, Live Cricket Score 1st Test Match.
Archer had, on a fine evening on March 11, 2013, posted “Rohit Sharma” on his twitter wall when Rohit was still to make his Test debut for India. Rohit made his debut as a middle-order batsman – at No 6 – against West Indies on November 6, 2013, at Kolkata. The then 26-year-old smashed 177 on debut before achieving the rare feat of hitting consecutive centuries in his first two Test matches. Bradmanesque! Like most of Archer’s tweets that have passed the test of time, this was one such. Again like most of Archer's earlier tweets, this post had no direct connection to Rohit's hundred against South Africa, nor to the Indian batsman resurrecting his Test career but that's fun and mystery of prophecies.
Meanwhile, India finished Day 1 of first India vs South Africa Test at 202 runs for the loss of zero wickets. Rohit was unbeaten on 115 from 174 deliveries, which comprised of 12 boundaries and 5 maximums, while his opening partner Mayank Agarwal remained 16 runs short of notching up his maiden Test century when rain forced early stumps. The opening duo also completed India’s 13th 200-plus run opening stand, with Rohit breaking a slew of records en route his fourth career Test hundred.
