It took Bumrah 57 matches to reach the milestone, one game extra than Mohammad Shami. Apart from these two, Irfan Pathan is on the third spot as he completed 100 ODI wickets in 59 matches. Bumrah needed one wicket at the start of India vs Sri Lanka to join the club and it did not take him long to reach the landmark. For the uninitiated, Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan holds the World record of fastest 100 wickets in ODIs.
Bumrah has been crucial to India’s success and is known for his ability to bowl Yorkers consistently towards the end of the innings. In this World Cup, the fast-bowler has picked 16 wickets (including two against Sri Lanka) thus far. Interestingly, Shami became the fastest Indian bowler to 100 wickets earlier this year during India’s tour of New Zealand. Martin Guptill was his 100th victim in ODIs. Apparently, Shami broke Pathan’s record at the time.
Meanwhile, India have already qualified for the World Cup 2019 semi-finals and are currently placed second on the CWC19 points table. The Virat Kohli-led side is most likely to face hosts England in the second semi-final on July 11.
