The anticipation are getting bigger and bigger everyday as people wait for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction retention conditions to be announced by the IPL governing council. The IPL GC earlier conducted a meeting with the owners of all the franchises and took their opinion on the number of retentions and the potential salary purse. There were reports on heated arguments and the owners divided in two groups regarding the retention decisions. The IPL GC is yet to confirm the number of retentions and salary purse set to be allowed for the franchises ahead of the mega auction. According to ESPN Cricinfo, The ten IPL teams will likely be allowed five retentions each as well as the option of using one RTM card during the IPL 2025 auction. ESPNcricinfo has learned that the IPL is most likely looking at approving this option as soon as it finalises the retention rules ahead of the mega auction for the 2025 season. It is yet to be confirmed how many Indian players can be part of the set of retained players or whether there will be a cap on retained overseas players. What is also unknown are the retention slabs. The overall purse could not be confirmed either, but it is understood it will hover around the INR 115-120 crore mark. If the IPL governing council, which was expected to meet this weekend in Bengaluru ahead of the BCCI's annual general meeting on Sunday, approves this 5 + 1 model, it would be highest number of retentions allowed in the tournament's history. The most retention in IPL history was allowed in the 2017 mega auction, when five players were allowed to be retained including RTM cards. It was also the last time RTM cards made an appearance in the IPL mega auction as in the IPL 2022 auction four retentions was allowed and no RTM card provision was there. This time, the number can go upto six including the RTM cards.
