Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) co-owner and Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan got involved in a heated argument with Ness Wadia, his counterpart from Punjab Kings, during the Indian Premier League (IPL) team owners' meeting. The much-awaited meeting took place on July 31 at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) headquarters in Mumbai and things seem to have become a bit heated at the discussion which was to happen keeping the mega-auction in mind ahead of the next season. Glenn Maxwell to Leave RCB? Fans Claim Star Australian All-Rounder Unfollows RCB On Instagram Ahead of IPL 2025 Retentions.
As per a report in Cricbuzz, the two team owners got into an argument in which Shah Rukh Khan batted in favour of more retentions while Ness Wadia was against retaining a lot of players. The report claims that Shah Rukh Khan also was against the mega-auction taking place, an event which has been the subject of some debate of late. The franchises will also be involved in a discussion to determine the number of retentions that each team would be allowed to make should there be a mega-auction. KL Rahul Likely To Leave Lucknow Super Giants Ahead of IPL 2025, Replace Faf du Plessis As RCB Captain: Report.
If the reports are to be believed, Shah Rukh disagreeing that a mega-auction should take place is understandable as it would then lead to somewhat of a dismantling of the KKR outfit. After making the final in 2021, the Knight Riders failed to enter the playoffs for two consecutive seasons before winning the title in 2024 with a squad which was pretty much well-balanced. But the reigning IPL champions will see some change in the coaching personnel, with mentor Gautam Gambhir, assistant coach Abhishek Nayar and fielding coach Ryan ten Doeschate leaving for the Indian cricket team.
