The all-important Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Mega Auction is nearing, and with that deadline for the franchise to announce their retentions as well. The retention list must be revealed by the franchises to the governing council by October 31 at 05:00 PM Indian Standard Time (IST), which has created a fanfare amongst fans for the IPL Retentions. After much discussion and deliberations with franchise owners, and administrators, the IPL Governing Council released a new set of rules for IPL Retentions, while also bringing older ones from earlier retentions. The IPL Retentions rules allow any franchise to retain six players via retention in fixed price slabs, or Right to Match (RTM) card, which is making a return after the IPL 2018 Mega Auction.
IPL Retentions Rules In Details
For the upcoming IPL 2025-27 Cycle, the IPL governing council has permitted teams to have a maximum of five capped and two uncapped players, amongst their six allowed retentions, via either RTM or retention rule. The purse for each IPL franchise in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction will be INR 120 Crore, out of which INR 41 Crore is allocated towards retentions, which are further divided into categories.
The breakdown of INR 41 Crore is as follows:
INR 18 Crore - 1st Retention, INR 14 Crore - 2nd Retention, and INR 11 Crore - 3rd Retention, which has to only be used for capped players, however, if a franchise wants to retain two more capped players, they will have to shell INR 18 and INR 14 Crore, respectively from their remaining IPL 2025 Mega Auction price pool of INR 43 Crore. An uncapped player can be retained for INR 4 Crore.
When Is The IPL Retention Deadline?
The deadline for the upcoming IPL Retention is October 31, after which any questions submitted by the franchise will be deemed null and void. Once submitted, the franchise will not be able to change their list beyond the IPL Retention deadline ends. What Time Does The IPL Retention Deadline End?
While October 31 is the IPL Retention deadline date, the time given to reveal or submit the list of retentions to BCCI and IPL Governing Council by franchises is 05:00 PM Indian Standard Time (IST). The franchise will have to make their retentions public as well., which will further be posted by IPL or BCCI website.
