With just a month or so remaining for the Indian Premier League (IPL) Mega Auctions 2025, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is making last-minute efforts to lock in a potential city for the marquee event, which in all likelihood be Riyadh. As per Cricbuzz, BCCI wants to hold the IPL Mega Auction 2025 in Saudi Arabia and could announce the schedule in the next few days. However, an issue for BCCI is that the dates coincide with IND vs AUS 1st Test at Perth, starting November 22.
BCCI have apart from Riyadh, also checked out cities like Jeddah, Dubai, Singapore, and London. This will not be the first time IPL auctions will coincide with an ongoing India tour.
BCCI wants to avoid any overlapping of Test and IPL Mega Auctions 2025, given both will be online live-streamed on Disney+Hotstar. However, the time difference between India and Australia will have a minimal impact on viewership. Meanwhile, franchises are all making last-minute changes to their retentions, with the IPL Retentions deadline nearing, which is October 31 at 05:00 PM Indian Standard Time (IST).
BCCI have already provided all franchises with retention rules, which were based on repeated consultation and inputs from all owners, and co-owners of the ten teams.
