The week gone by saw the group stage of the VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 come to an end with some frantic last-minute efforts by teams to alter their standings in the league table. And with the end of last group-stage match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the four teams were decided – Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Kane Williamson-led Hyderabad became the first team to qualify to the IPL playoffs with 12 points, while MS Dhoni’s Chennai maintained their 100% qualification record. First No Result Game of the Season
The game between two struggling outfits- the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals produced no result as rain played spoilsport. The authorities did try and go for a five over a side match but with Rajasthan needing 22 off ten balls, there was another pause, and the teams were awarded a point each.
KL Rahul Hits the Fastest Fifty Vs. CSK in the History of IPL
Kings XI Punjab opener K L Rahul slammed a 19 ball 50 in his side’s win over Chennai Super Kings which is the fastest half-century ever against MS Dhoni’s team. The right-handed batsman known for his exquisite stroke play also got 55 runs in the powerplay which is the most so far surpassing David Warner’s 52.
CSK Maintain 100% Qualification Record in IPL
Chennai Super Kings have qualified for the playoffs ten out of the ten seasons they have played in the Indian Premier League. They were suspended for two years by the authorities but have come back even stronger lifting the cup in 2018.
SRH Qualify for the Knockouts After KKR Lose
The Sunrisers Hyderabad made it to the next round of the Indian Premier League after Kolkata Knight Riders lost their do or die contest versus the Mumbai Indians. A poor batting effort by Kolkata cost them the game after Hyderabad’s loss at Bangalore had opened up a wonderful opportunity.
Kagiso Rabada Out of IPL, but Leads Purple Cap Race
Injured South African pacer Kagiso Rabada may have left the tournament owing to an injury, but leads the Purple Cap race with 25 wickets. Compatriot Imran Tahir is second with 21 wickets and would be eager to dethrone Rabada at the top.
David Warner Leads Orange Cap Race
Australian opener David Warner scored 692 runs for SRH before returning to Australia to join his country’s World Cup preparatory camp. Hyderabad will miss his presence even more as it gets ready for the knock out games.
