The IPL 2019 player auction is turning out to be quite an interesting affair. Shimron Hetmyer, Carlos Braithwaite and Axar Patel bagged big money at the auctions a while ago. West Indies batsman, Shimron Hetmyer who had the base price of Rs 50 lakhs went to the Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 4.20 crore. Talking about Hetmyer, Initially, Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals were the ones to bid for the 21-year-old. Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad then chipped in with a higher price and then finally the Caribbean were sold to Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 4.2 crore. Carlos Braithwaite who played for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2018, had a base price of Rs 75 lakhs. Both Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders were desperate to get the Caribbean player. Finally, the all-rounder was sold to Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 5 crore. Braithwaite has played 14 matches in the IPL and made 170 runs with the highest score of 43 not out. He also snapped 13 wickets in 14 matches.
There was some intense bidding for Axar Patel between KXIP and Delhi Capitals. He was ultimately sold to Delhi Capitals for Rs 5 crore. But Yuvraj Singh remaining unsold in the first round proved to be a shocker. It would be interesting to see of Yuvi gets any takers in the second round of the bid.
