However, the auctions witnessed a number of players remaining unsold. The list includes names like Cheteshwar Pujara, Manoj Tiwary, Alex Hales and a few others. So a fan tried to troll the Australian player Mitchell Johnson for remaining unsold in the auction, without realising that the pacer had already hung his boots this year. Mitchell who always has a witty reply up his sleeve too gave an apt reply to the troll, which was good enough to shut him up. Johnson was a part of Kolkata Knight Riders during the IPL 2018 and prior to that was a part of the winning squad of Mumbai Indians in 2017. Since Johnson retired from all forms of cricket, the fan was not even aware of the pacer was not a part of the pool of players for the IPL 12. The auction witnessed Jaydev Undakat and Varun Chakravarthy bagging big money. Rajasthan Royals once again bought Rajasthan Royals and Varun Chakravarthy was bought by the Kings XI Punjab. Both players got sold for Rs 8.4 crores each.
