Gautam Gambhir is perhaps the only player to forego his Indian Premier League (IPL). After failing to produce positive results for Delhi Daredevils, Gambhir not only gave up his captaincy but the salary for the whole season as well and has decided to play free for the franchise. After Gambhir, another player is ready to reject his IPL salary and feature in the tournament for free. English all-rounder Moeen Ali, who was bought for INR 1.7 crores by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), has said that in order to gain experience he is ready to play for free.

“If you asked me to play in the IPL for free, I would have done. I literally would have come for the experience, especially with the players at RCB like Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Brendon McCullum and Quinton de Kock,” Moeen was quoted as saying by The Guardian.

“And I’m wanting to train all of the time. Even today we’re not down to but I have asked to do some extra time. Sometimes in the same environment, you maybe lose a bit of that. So I think the IPL has come at a great time, getting different ideas from new voices,” the 30-year-old all-rounder added.

RCB have thus far played six matches and Moeen is yet to feature in a single game for the franchise. The Kohli-led side have lost four out of six matches and are currently placed sixth on the IPL 2018 points table.

Moeen has played 50 Tests, 73 ODIs, and 22 T20Is. He is, however, yet to make his IPL debut. With RCB struggling in the bowling department, Moeen can add depth to their bowling. Only time will tell whether Moeen gets to play this season or not.
