It is time for Indian Premier League 2018 (IPL 2018). Cricketâs lucrative league enter its 11th season and IPL 2018 begins with a star-studded opening ceremony which will take place at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, the venue for the opening match of IPL 2018 between home team Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. Ever since its inception, IPL is regarded as the mix of cricket and Bollywood. The celebrities from both the fields enjoy a huge fan following in this part of the world. So, it is fitting from entertainment point of view that IPL opens with performances from Bollywood stars.
After the opening ceremony, the IPL 2018 will kick off formally. Hosts and defending champions Mumbai Indians will look to get off to a winning start in front of the home crowd. Chennai Super Kings, on the other hand, return to IPL after a gap of two years. The Chennai based franchise this year completed a two-year suspension and is now ready to compete.
Unlike previous opening ceremonies, only two captains (Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni) will be present during the IPL 2018 opening ceremony. Earlier, the IPL governing body had picked CCI in Mumbai as the venue for the opening ceremony but was later directed by the CoA to change it to Wankhede.
The IPL 2018 will feature 60 matches (including playoffs and final) and will be played for close to two months. Apart from CSK, Rajasthan Royals also return after a gap of two years. Earlier, Steve Smith was named as their skipper but following the ball-tampering scandal he was banned from the IPL and Ajinkya Rahane was handed the duty.
