In a gripping contest, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by two wickets to make it to the final of Indian Premier League 2018 (IPL 2018). The two teams locked horns in the first qualifier at Mumbai. Chasing modest total of 140, CSK batsmen were put under pressure by SRH bowlers. However, Faf du Plessis played a sheet anchor role as he guided his side to the victory in the last over. The right-handed batsman scored unbeaten 67 off 42 balls. This was CSK’s third win over SRH this season. Here’s a look at some other stats from the CSK vs SRH Qualifier 1:

  • In the 15th over of SRH’s innings, Yusuf Pathan was caught and bowled by Dwayne Bravo. This was Bravo’s 10th caught and bowled dismissal in the IPL. He now shares the joint-most caught and bowled dismissals with Harbhajan Singh. Overall, in T20s Bravo has 25 caught and bowled dismissals, which is the highest for any bowler.   • On the very first ball of the match, Deepak Chahar dismissed Shikhar Dhawan. This has happened for the first time in a playoff match that a team lost a wicket off the very first ball.
  • Chennai Super Kings’ two-wicket win is now the narrowest win by any side in an IPL playoff match.
  • It took Chennai Super Kings ten overs to reach the 50-run mark. It was their slowest fifty of this season.
  • Chennai Super Kings have now made it to the IPL finals record seven times. The second best for other teams is four times. Out of previous six final appearances, CSK lifted the title only twice.

Meanwhile, SRH will get another shy at the finals. The Kane Williamson-led side will meet the winner of Eliminator match between Kolkata Knight (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR). The two teams face-off on May 23 at the Eden Gardens. The second qualifier will be played at the same venue on May 25 while final in Mumbai on May 27.
