The Indian Premier League 2018 (IPL 2018) matches scheduled to be held at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai will be moved out of the city following protests over Cauvery water row, ANI reported. Earlier, it was informed that the matches in Chennai will go ahead despite the growing protests. In fact, CSK hosted Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Tuesday (April 11).
However, during the CSK vs KKR match four people reportedly threw slippers into the ground as a mark of protest. They were later detained. Interestingly, CSK played its first home match after two years following their suspension from the league. It is likely that the CSK home matches might be shifted to Kerala or Ranchi. However, there is no official confirmation on it yet.
There has been a demand for cancellation or postponement of all IPL matches in Chennai till the Centre constitutes the Cauvery Management Board (CMB). Political parties even asked spectators to boycott the matches in Chennai.
CSK on Tuesday defeated KKR by five wickets to register their second consecutive win. The hosts chased down 203 after Sam Billings smashed an impressive half-century. Shifting of home venue will be a huge setback for CSK as the franchise enjoys huge support.
