The topic of India's Asia Cup 2023 squad selection has been the topic of much discussion and debate for quite some time now. The middle order looked fragile in the West Indies series with KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer's absences being felt dearly. The team tried with Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson in the middle-order and it did not seem to work out. While SKY remains a force to be reckoned with in T20 cricket, he has been barely a shadow of himself in ODIs. As a matter of fact, he himself admitted that his performances in ODIs have been poor. Samson on the other hand, got few opportunities in the West Indies but failed to capitalise. Many former cricketers had earlier backed the selection committee to pick Tilak Varma, who can be a potential solution to India's number four conundrum. The Men in Blue had failed to qualify for the Super Four stage in last year's Asia Cup, which was played in T20 format. Sri Lanka won the tournament, beating Pakistan in the final.
