BCCI’s All-India Senior Selection Committee will name the squads for one-off Test against Afghanistan, two T20Is against Ireland, three T20Is and as many ODIs against England. After the IPL 2018, India will take on Afghanistan in Bengaluru from June 14 onwards and will then fly to Ireland for T20Is on June 27and 29. India’s tour of England then kick-off with three T20Is, starting July 03, followed by three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and five Tests. As reported earlier, captain Virat Kohli will miss the Afghanistan Test and Ireland T20Is. Kohli will play for Surrey for the month of June and that will help him prepare for the full-fledged tour of England, which starts from July.
Delhi Daredevils palpation Shreyas Iyer is likely to replace Virat Kohli in the Indian Test squad against Afghanistan. Middle-order batsman is set to be named as the captain of the side. Cheteshwar Pujara, who is playing county, is likely to play the Afghanistan Test and he will be back in the in the country by then. Fast bowlers Mohammad Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar could well be rested as well. And that Ishant Sharma, who is playing county as well, will be included in the Test side.
With Kohli to miss the Ireland T20Is, Rohit is likely to be named as the stand-in captain. Chances are Ambati Rayudu might be included in the Indian T20I squad following his impressive performances in the ongoing IPL. Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see whether selectors name some fresh faces for Afghanistan Test and Ireland T20Is or not.
