Maity, who hails from Hooghly district, was watching the IND vs NZ Semi-Final match on his phone when the incident took place. A sweet shop owner and others, who heard a loud noise after 33-year-old Maity fell, ran to his rescue. They found him lying unconscious on the floor. MS Dhoni's run-out in the penultimate over of India batting came as a big shock to every Indian cricket fan as he was the only one expected to take the men in blue to victory after Indian team faced a top-order collapse.

India lost the match to Kane Williamson-led team after falling short of 18 runs in the end. Dhoni and Jadeja kept the hopes of Indian victory alive with a 166-run partnership for 7th wicket, however, after Dhoni departed, the doors of India's journey in World Cup 2019 closed.
