IND 312/2 in 113 Overs at Stumps | India vs West Indies Highlights of 1st Test 2023 Day 2: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma Centuries Keep Visitors on Top

Yashasvi Jaiswal (143*) and Rohit Sharma's (103) centuries have put India in a position of dominance and total control of this Test match. The duo registered the highest-ever opening partnership against the West Indies (229) in Tests and both scored fluent hundreds. However, Rohit departed shortly and Shubman Gill, too could not make much of a difference. But Yashasvi continued as he batted with caution mixed with aggression and stitched an undefeated 72-run partnership with Virat Kohli (36*), which has seen India finish Day 2 at 312/2, having a sizeable 162-run lead. For West Indies, Alick Athanaze (1/33) and Jomel Warrican (1/82) were the wicket-takers. 

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli have continued to exert India's dominance in this match with both batters scoring pretty much at ease. West Indies, having used spin for a while now, have taken the second new ball in the hope of a wicket.

India have now taken a lead of 100 runs in this Test match. The visitors would expect to add a lot more, now that Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal have given them a solid platform. West Indies struck twice before tea but India would feel they are still in control of proceedings here. 

And that is tea on Day 2! What an ending to the session it has been. India looked set to continue their dominance and Yashasvi Jaiswal along with his captain Rohit Sharma completed 100s each. But West Indies bounced back when Alick Athanaze dismissed the Indian skipper and Shubman Gill too fell cheaply to Jomel Warrican. Virat Kohli and centurion Yashasvi Jaiswal are at the crease as India head to tea with a 95-run lead. 

OUT! One brings two and it is exactly what has happened! Shubman Gill has been dismissed by Jomel Warrican and all of a sudden, West Indies are slowly gaining momentum! It is a bittersweet feeling for Indian fans but West Indies have finally got a breakthrough here. HUNDRED ON TEST DEBUT! Yashasvi Jaiswal has achieved a remarkable feat in his first match for India! The highly-rated youngster showed why he has been such a talked about cricketer in recent times with a classy knock. He has now become the 17th Indian to score a hundred on Test debut. Take a bow! 

India have taken the lead now in this match with Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal still going on nicely. The two have looked comfortable against the West Indies bowlers in this contest. West Indies on the other hand, are on the lookout for a wicket and they would need one right away as this game is slipping away real fast.

The second session of play has begun and India would look to continue the way they have throughout this contest. Both Rohit and Yashasvi have looked largely untroubled so far. West Indies need to break this partnership.

He and Yashasvi Jaiswal are laying a solid platform for the rest of the batting to follow. 

FIFTY! Yashasvi Jaiswal has scored a half-century on debut! What an innings this has been and this knock is a testament to the talent he possesses. He began slowly but now has outscored Rohit Sharma to get to the half-century. India would want him to continue and get that three-figure score now. 

Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal have continued with their decent start to the second innings of the Test match. West Indies would need to break this partnership if they are to make a way back into this Test match. Or else, it could be a very long day on the field for them.
