India Beat West Indies By Five Wickets | IND vs WI Highlights of 1st ODI 2023: Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Ishan Kishan Guide Visitors to Dominating Victory

India registered a pretty dominant victory set up by the wonderful bowling effort in the first innings. With this, India have deservedly taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

A good way for India to kickstart this series. This is the start of their preparation for the World Cup later this year and they have made surely made a strong start to fine tune for the tournament. The bowlers, especially the spinners, were superb with Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav sharing seven wickets between them. It was a fascinating effort to see them restrict West Indies to only 115 runs. In response, India might have some concerns with the way their batting went. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, two mainstays, did not bat in the top-order and it was a good opportunity for the youngsters to impress. But that is something which needs some work. Ishan Kishan was fabulous with a half-century and although India have the win, the way it came was not perhaps expected by them at the start of the second innings. West Indies on their part, need a lot of work to do to bounce back. They did look good in parts with the ball but failed big time with the willow. The second ODI would be played at the same venue on July 29.Ā

Victory for Team India! Not in the way they would have hoped for after restricting West Indies to a paltry total but a commanding win nonetheless. India did not have Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli bat in the top-order and instead, provide opportunities to the others and it seemed a poor move but for Ishan Kishan, who grabbed the chance to score a half-century. Eventually, the captain had to come out and see his team through in 22.5 overs.Ā

27 Jul, 22:58 (IST)

OUT! Yannic Cariah has dismissed Shardul Thakur but the batter did not go off before having a word with the umpire. He edged the ball to slips but he has a chat with the umpire, gesturingĀ towards some distraction in the sightscreen. Shardul Thakur c Alick Athanaze b Yannic Cariah 1(4)

27 Jul, 22:53 (IST)

OUT! Gudakesh Motie has the big wicket of Ishan Kishan, who attempted another big shot. The left-hander completed his fourth fifty in ODIs and tried to hit one shot too many with Rovman Powell taking a good catch.Ā Ishan Kishan c Powell b Motie 52(46)Ā

27 Jul, 22:47 (IST)

FIFTY! Ishan Kishan has struck a half-century and led India's charge with the bat in this chase. The tour of West Indies keeps on getting better for the young wicketkeeper who has pounced on the opportunity to bat in the top-order with both hands. An impressive performance as India edge closer to a win!Ā

27 Jul, 22:39 (IST)

OUT! Hardik Pandya is run out in the most unfortunate circumstances possible! Ishan Kishan hit the ball straight to Yannic Cariah and he missed the catch. But the ball ricocheted off his hands into the stumps with Hardik Pandya's bat in the air as he attempted to return to his crease. A lucky break here. Still no Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli with Ravindra Jadeja coming out to bat.Ā Hardik Pandya run out Yannic Cariah 5(7)

27 Jul, 22:28 (IST)

OUT! Gudakesh Motie has made an impact right after being introduced into the attack. Suryakumar Yadav missed a sweep shot and the ball by Motie struck him on his pads. Although he reviewed it, the decision remained out and India have lost another wicket. Hardik Pandya the next man in.Ā Suryakumar Yadav lbw b Gudakesh Motie 19(25)Ā

27 Jul, 22:22 (IST)

India have crossed the half-century mark and at the moment, it seems all too easy for them. West Indies would need to take some more wickets here to send panic down the Indian batting order.Ā

27 Jul, 22:08 (IST)

Ishan Kishan has played some fine shots to keep the flow of runs going after Shubman Gill's dismissal. India are well and truly ahead in this contest despite losing Gill early and this pair would look to seal the win for the side. Suryakumar Yadav has a point to prove and he would want to make a statement here.Ā

27 Jul, 21:57 (IST)

OUT! Jayden Seales has struck and he has dismissed Shubman Gill. The right-hander edged one to the slips with Brandon King taking a fine catch. West Indies needed an early wicket and they have got one. Another surprise here for India with Suryakumar Yadav coming in to bat at number three instead of Virat Kohli.Ā Shubman Gill c Brandon King b Jayden Seales 7(16)

27 Jul, 21:38 (IST)

A bit surprising move here with Ishan Kishan opening the innings for India with Shubman Gill. The idea might not be a bad one with a left-right hand combination going at the start of the innings. Both players have had double centuries while opening in ODIs. But this move can be explained with India chasing a modest total and some runs here for both youngsters would do their confidence a world of good.Ā

West Indies have managed just 114 runs with Kuldeep Yadav starring with a four-wicket haul. He and Ravindra Jadeja (3/37) bowled well in tandem to take the breath out of West Indies batting effort. Windies captain Shai Hope top-scored with 43 runs in a disappointing batting show. Hardik Pandya, Shardul Thakur and debutant Mukesh Kumar also got one wicket apiece.

27 Jul, 20:58 (IST)

OUT! West Indies continue to slide into further misery with Kuldeep Yadav dismissing Yannic Cariah. The left-hander was trapped right in front of the stumps and India reviewed the decision after the on-field umpire gave it not out. Replay showed the ball hitting the stumps and Kuldeep now has his second in the game.Ā  Yannic Cariah lbw b Kuldeep Yadav 3(9)

27 Jul, 20:44 (IST)

OUT! West Indies keep losing wickets and now, it is Kuldeep Yadav, who has struck! Dominic Drakes did not have a clue about the ball and was trapped in front of the stumps. He did review but that could not save him as replay showed the ball crashing into the stumps. India continue to strengthen their grip on this contest while West Indies get deeper into trouble. Dominic Drakes lbw b Kuldeep Yadav 3(5)

27 Jul, 20:38 (IST)

OUT! And two more for Ravindra Jadeja! The off-spinner has taken two wickets in the over to have West Indies reeling here! First, it was Rovman Powell who edged to Shubman Gill at slips. Next up, it was a Virat Kohli special catch to dismiss Romario Shepherd. West Indies might not bat their full quota of 50 overs here. India completely in control of the proceedings. RovmanĀ Powell c Shubman Gill b Jadeja 4(4) & RomarioĀ Shepherd c Virat Kohli b Ravindra Jadeja 0(2)

27 Jul, 20:28 (IST)

OUT! Ravindra Jadeja has his first wicket of the game and it is the big one of Shimron Hetmyer. The left-hander attempted an adventurous shot, trying to play a ramp-like shot but instead, the ball crashed straight into the stumps. West Indies had a small partnership going but have been pegged back again. Shimron Hetmyer b Ravindra Jadeja 11(19)Ā

27 Jul, 19:49 (IST)

OUT! And another wicket and this time, it is Shardul Thakur, who has knocked out Brandon King's middle stump. Thakur hit the deck but seemed a bit late in playing the shot as the ball struck the middle stump and knocked it out of the ground. West Indies are under a lot of pressure here.Ā Brandon King b Shardul Thakur 17(23)Ā

27 Jul, 19:45 (IST)

OUT! Mukesh Kumar has struck on debut and ended a little promising knock from Alick Athanaze here! Athanaze, who looked good after playing some crisp shots, tried to hit a cut shot on the off-side but could only find Ravindra Jadeja at point. Alick Athanaze c Ravindra Jadeja b Mukesh Kumar 22(18)

27 Jul, 19:16 (IST)

OUT! Hardik Pandya has struck in his second over and dismissed Kyle Mayers! The move to have Pandya bowl with the new ball has paid dividends for Rohit Sharma and Mayers, who did not look at his best, attempted to play a big shot and could only find skipper Rohit at mid-on. India have drawn first blood here. Kyle Mayers c Rohit Sharma b Hardik Pandya 2(9)

After an interesting Test series, the action in Indiaā€™s tour of West Indies moves over to the ODIs with the 1st of the three matches taking place today at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados on Thursday, July 27. India expectedly dictated the Test series and rain prevented them from a 2-0 series sweep in Port of Spain, Trinidad. Rohit Sharma and his team would be raring to go and keep up with the momentum in this ODI series as well, which is a pretty crucial one since it is a World Cup year. As a matter of fact, this three-game series against West Indies would be Indiaā€™s start of preparations for the marquee tournament in October and the Men in Blue would be keen on ticking most boxes prior to the showpiece event. India have a strong squad on paper and are expected to win this series but West Indies cannot be counted out completely.Ā India vs West Indies 1st ODI 2023 Free Live Streaming Online on JioCinema and FanCode: Get Free Live TV Telecast of IND vs WI Cricket Match on DD Sports.

The Caribbean side, for the first time in history, failed to qualify for the World Cup after defeats to Netherlands and Scotland in the Qualifiers earlier on. West Indies cricket is not at its best currently with the Men in Maroon seeking inspiration from somewhere to get going. The World Cup is not on West Indiesā€™ agenda but nonetheless, they would take this series with a lot of seriousness as good performances against a top side like India can really give them a lot of confidence going ahead.
