India were off a bad start after Kohli had won opted to bat first. Sheldon Cottrell struck early castling Shikhar Dhawan plumb in front of the wicket in just the third delivery of the game but Kohli and his deputy Rohit Sharma stitched a 74-run partnership before Rohit (18) and Rishabh Pant’s (20) quick dismissals left India in another spot of bother. But Shreyas Iyer (71) and Kohli were involved in a century-run partnership with the Indian skipper registering his 42nd ODI century and his first in over five months. Their partnership helped India post a respectful 279 runs on board. Bhuvneshwar Kumar Takes a Brilliant Return Catch of His Own Bowling to Dismiss Roston Chase; Watch Video.
Chris Gayle then added a fresh feather to his illustrious hat by overtaking Brian Lara to become the highest ODI run-getter for the West Indies. But despite that Gayle looked far from any form and departed after a struggling 24-ball 11 runs stay. Evin Lewis looked in good touch but hardly found a partner before Nicholas Pooran arrived. Both the left-handers stitched a fighting 50-run partnership and were confident of taking West Indies home before the loss of patience results in another West Indies collapse. Bhuvneshwar completed his four-wicket haul and India took a 1-0 lead with one game remaining.
