India Win in Super Over | India vs Sri Lanka Highlights of 3rd T20I 2024: Suryakumar Yadav's Captaincy Helps Men in Blue Win Close Encounter

What a game! Sri Lanka dominated the game for most of the times till Suryakumar Yadav decided to take the ball and give it to Rinku Singh. Next over, he himself comes into attack and the duo defends nine runs off two overs, taking the game to Super Over. Washington Sundar restricted Sri Lanka to 2 runs in Super Over and Suryakumar Yadav finished off in style. India win the series 3-0. 

Out! Sri Lanka's Super Over ends in three balls. In the second ball Kusal Perera tries to hit Washington Sundar for a six and gets holed out. Pathum Nissanka goes for the slogsweep next ball and fails again. India needs just three runs to win. 

Oh Drama! The last over had all kinds of chaos as twice Suryakumar Yadav had the opportunity to run out the non striker but Sri Lanka managed to take the game into Super Over. With 9 needed off the 12 balls, Rinku Singh and Suryakumar Yadav dismissed four batters shifting the momentum towards India and helped them tie the game from a losing position. On to Super Over now. 

Out! Double wicket over for Washington Sundar and there is another twist in the game. Charith Asalanka and Wanindu Hasaranga are dismissed with much contribution and the responsibility is now on Kusal Perera to help Sri Lanka get home. Sri Lanka are still ahead in the game with 21 needed off 18 deliveries. 

Things are not looking good for India as Kusal Perera has showed his intent straightaway and is taking the game quickly away from India. Kusal Mendis has held the fort from one end and Sri Lanka are maintaining a steady pace towards the target. India needs wickets desperately. 

Out! Pathum Nissanka was feeling confident in the crease and it is the reason he tried such a risky shot. Tries to tonk Ravi Bishnoi out of the ground but gets it wrong and long on settles to take an easy catch. Sri Lanka are well ahead in the game but this wicket can change things. Nissanka c Riyan Parag b Ravi Bishnoi 26(27).

Sri Lanka are off to a steady start in the powerplay. In the first three overs they looked to not lose any wicket against Mohammed Siraj, who posed a big threat to them and then tried to ramp up the scoring rate. With the target not being so big, keeping wickets in hand will be important. 

Out! Kusal Mendis nails the direct hit at the non-striker's end and with it the Indian innings comes to and end. India will take it given how their innings began with a collapse. Shubman Gill and Riyan Parag brough them to a respectable score and when both of them departed in the same over, the fate of the innings was pretty much clear. The pitch is not easy at all and India will back themselves to defend the score. 

Out! Shubman Gill tries to go downtown and gets stumped. It was about time he took a risk but the pitch is very difficult to execute such shot. His footwork was hesitant and Hasaranga's ball turned enough to go out of his reach. Gill will be disappointed with his attempt. Shubman Gill st Kusal Mendis b Hasaranga 39(37).

After the initial collapse, Riyan Parag has settled the dust for India with Shubman Gill. Parag has taken the aerial route a few times and helped India keep up the scoring rate without being too passive. The two have carried the visitors to a decent platform and now will look for a strong finish. 

Out! Even Shivam Dube fails to get going for India. He was struggling to rotate and desperately looking for big shots. Goes for an expansive drive and gets a healthy edge which Kusal Mendis doesn't make a mistake to grab. Half the side of India is down now and they are yet to cross 50. Shivam Dube c Kusal Mendis b Ramesh Mendis 13(14).

Out! Body blow for India. Suryakumar Yadav goes for his favourite lap sweep and times it well too. But Charith Asalanka already placed the square leg very square for Surya and he gets caught in the deep. India need to revise the score they want to reach now. Suryakumar Yadav c Hasaranga b Asitha Fernando 8(9).

Out! India in early trouble now. Sanju Samson failed to trouble the scorers once again as he got dismissed on a duck. He was soon followed by Rinku Singh who could score only 1 run. Samson was dismissed by Chamindu Wickramasinghe and Rinku was foxed by Maheesh Theekshana. Samson c Hasaranga b Wickramasinghe 0(4) and Rinku Singh c Pathirana b Theekshana 1(2).

Out! India were looking to get an aggressive start and Yashasvi Jaiswal falls in that attempt. Jaiswal tried to sweep Maheesh Theekshana but ended up missing it and got caught right in front of the wickets. Sri Lanka will be relieved having Jaiswal's wicket early. Jaiswal lbw b Theekshana 10(9) .

Although the rain has stopped, the outfield is still wet. Good news is that in Sri Lanka the entire square is covered and that is helpful. Some of the covers are coming off slowly and the toss time is very likely to be announced after the inspection of the Umpires soon.
