The secretary of Assam Cricket Association (ACA), Devajit Saikia has said that Posters and banners will not be allowed inside the Barsapra stadium for the T20I clash between India and Sri Lanka. With Guwahati’s Police Commissioner MP Gupta by his side, Saikia said that the steps taken had nothing to do with the ongoing protests over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

India are all set to take on Sri Lanka in the first T20I match of the New Year at the Barsapra Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. But controversy has struck the much expected Twenty-20 clash as Devajit Saikia, Secretary Assam Cricket Association (ACA), said that posters, banners and message board will not be allowed inside the stadium during this encounter. Fans will be only allowed to carry their phones, keys and purse into the ground on Sunday and nothing else. This is an international event and will have heightened security measures. We have to be prepared’ Saikia said. A BCCI official said that the placards with ‘4’ and ‘6’ printed on them are usually arranged by the series sponsor but will abide with the decision taken by the local authorities. The three-match T20I series between India and Sri Lanka will start on Sunday in Guwahati with the other two matches to be played on January 7 in Indore and January 10 in Pune. This game is also a good opportunity for ACA to present their case for hosting IPL 2020 matches as Rajasthan Royals have expressed their interest in playing there.
