India captain Virat Kohli will look to take an unassailable lead in the Third One Day International (ODI) against South Africa. The third ODI match will take place at Newlands Cricket Ground, in Capetown on February, 7. South Africa is trailing 0-2 in the six-match ODI series. The Proteas are playing without their three first-choice players – AB de Villiers, Faf du Plessis, and Quinton de Kock.
Going into the third match, the South African team has a lot of problems to answer. Since the first-choice players are out of the playing XI, other senior players – Hashim Amla, David Miller, and JP Duminy – in the side have not been able to perform to their potential.
India rolled-out the South African side for their lowest ODI score in previous ODI. They are high on confidence at the moment. A lot of players will have to step up in the third ODI. We, at Latestly, bring to you a list of key players who might turn out to be the trump card for their side on Wednesday.
1. Rohit Sharma
It is a well-known fact that Rohit Sharma is a completely different player when it comes to playing in the blue jersey. However, the Rohit ‘Hitman’ Sharma hasn’t been in his form of late. Sharma would like to get better of the bad-patch of dismal performances in the Test Series and the first two ODIs behind him. His opening partner Shikhar Dhawan got a half-century in the previous ODI and Sharma would be looking to hit form soon.
2. David Miller
The hard-hitting South African has also not lived up to its expectations till now. After injuries to senior players, Miller was expected to add the much-needed support in the middle order. The Proteas’ side needed his aggressive playing style in action, and so far, hasn’t had even a glimpse of it. Come Wednesday, Miller would love to silence his critics with some flamboyance.
3. Virat Kohli
A lot of India’s chances depend on how Virat Kohli performs. Not just his batting skills, but Kohli’s captaincy skills would be at test too. Kohli is in sublime form and would want to continue his excellent form in the Third ODI too. Will he be the first Indian captain to not to lose an ODI series in South Africa, tomorrow?
4. JP Duminy
Once the middle-order mainstay for South Africa, JP Duminy, has failed to justify his spot in the playing XI of late. An exceptional player of both spin and pace, Duminy would look to anchor the innings in tomorrow’s outing and add crucial runs with the lower order batsmen. The onus will be on him to deliver and help his side in not only winning the match but also the series.
5. Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav
The spin-duo have been wreaking havoc on South African side lately. Between them, they have bagged 13 wickets in the first two ODIs. The South Africa side clueless against the wrist spin and the duo would want to replicate their performance in the Third ODI. It will be interesting to see if the Proteas’ side have anything new to offer. Read Complete Match Preview Here.
India has already toppled South Africa as the top ODI team in ICC ODI Team Rankings. The Kohli-led side would not want any type of complacency in the Indian camp. The Third ODI match is as important for India as it will be for South Africa. Will it be South Africa or will it be India who wins tomorrow? The live action begins at 04.30 p.m. on Sony Ten 1 and Sony Ten 3 on Wednesday! Stay tuned with us for all the live updates about India vs South Africa ODI series.
