Rohit Sharma etched new records in T20I history during the 3rd and final T20I game between India and South Africa. The 32-year-old overtook compatriot and skipper Virat Kohli to become the highest run-scorer in T20I cricket. Rohit, who required 8 runs to regain his position at the top of the run-scoring charts, smashed consecutive boundaries off Kagiso Rabada to complete the milestone. It, however, wasn’t the feat Rohit had achieved before nicking Beuran Hendricks in the very next over. He has also now equalled MS Dhoni’s record for most T20I appearances for India. Both Dhoni and Rohit now have 98 T20I matches for India. India Vs South Africa, Cricket Score 3rd T20I Match.

But despite achieving two feats in Bengaluru, Rohit continued his poor form after a stunning Cricket World Cup 2019 campaign. The Indian deputy skipper, who was out for run-a-ball 12 in the first T20I game against South Africa, was dismissed for 9 runs from just 8 deliveries. He was out trying to play an in-swinger only to edge it to Reeza Hendricks at first slip.

Earlier, Indian captain, Virat Kohli had won the toss and elected to bat first. Kohli led from the front both with the bat and in the field. The Indian captain first produced a stunning one-handed catch to remove his counter-part Quinton de Kock after the latter had completed a half-century and was looking to go big. Kohli, then hit a match-winning 72 runs from just 52 deliveries, which comprised of three sixes and four fours, to comfortably take India home with seven-wickets and an over to spare. India have taken an unassailable 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series.
