India vs South Africa, 2nd Test 2019: Mayank Agarwal and Virat Kohli Shine As India Pile 273/3 at Stumps on Day 1

Earlier in the day, India won the toss and decided to bat first. For India, Umesh Yadav came in for Hanuma Vihari, while pacer Anrich Nortje replaced Dane Piedt in the Proteas XI. India didn’t get off to a great start as opener Rohit Sharma got dismissed for just 14. After that, Cheteshwar Pujara came in to bat and the one-sided show started.

The first day of second India vs South Africa Test ended at India scoring 273-3 in the first innings. The match was called off early due to bad light. At stumps, captain Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane were batting at scores of 63 and 18 respectively.  The Day 1 of the Pune Test went in India’s favour as the hosts displayed some great form and held the upper hand in the match. Mayank Agarwal was the stand-out performer for the host who scored his second ton of the series and laid a solid foundation for a massive score. The Agrawal-Pujara duo stitched a great partnership and brought India back go the match. Pujara got dismissed for 58 but Agrawal continued his good form and registered a thumping hundred.

Except for Rabada, all the other bowlers had a tough day on the field as all went wicket-less. On the second day, India will want to capitalise on the fantastic start and muster a massive first-innings total. The second day could also witness Virat Kohli’s first Test ton this year. On the other hand, the visitors will want to change the tempo of the game and wrap-up the number-one ranked Test side as soon as possible. So, a lot of action is lined-up on the second day and it will be interesting to see who will dominate the contest.
