India took a step closer to sealing an 11th consecutive Test series victory at home with South Africa already four wickets down and starring at an innings defeat in the 2nd IND vs SA Test match. The visitors were struggling at 4/74 at lunch on Day 4 after being dismissed for 275 in the first innings and being asked to follow-on. The Protea batsmen failed with the bat again and are staring at defeat at the moment. Ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who took four wickets in South Africa's first innings, proved his mettle again and struck twice. Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma scalped one wicket. This was the first instance in 11 years when South Africa are forced to follow-on in a Test match. India have a firm grip over the match as the visitors still need to score 356 runs in order to go past India’s first innings tally. However, the Faf de Plessis led side have already lost four wickets inside 100 runs and are on the verge of facing a series defeat. With India already leading the three-match series 1-0, a victory in the ongoing clash will seal the deal for the hosts.
Earlier in the match, Virat Kohli scored 254 in the first innings and India advanced to a gigantic total of 601 runs. In reply, the Proteas top-order tumbled. However, Vernon Philander and Keshav Maharaj didn’t put their guards down and South Africa managed 275 runs in their first innings. Anyway, the visitors are still trailing by 252 runs and will have to put up an extraordinary effort In order to make any kind of comeback.
