Domination was the word for the Indian cricket team as they went on to register a comprehensive victory over South Africa on Day 5 of the match which was hosted at the VDCA Stadium in Vishakhapatnam. The home team registered a 203 run victory and all thanks to the all-round performance delivered by the batsmen and the bowlers. However, this just didn’t prove to be enough and the visitors got bundled out on 431 runs with Ravichandran Ashwin snapping seven wickets. But once again the strong India batting lineup proved to be fatal for the visitors as Rohit smacked yet another century with Cheteshwar Pujara joining the party with 81 runs.

A quick cameo from Ravindra Jadeja of 40 runs from 32 balls further boasted the team and the target imposed on the opponents was 395 runs. But once again the bowlers delivered when required as Ravindra Jadeja scalped four wickets whereas Mohammed Shami got five. As a result, the team won the game by 203 runs. # Rohit Sharma who scored a century in the second innings too crossed the average of 100.

# This is the ninth time, that an Indian has scored 300 runs in a Test match.

# Mayank Agarwal scored his first Test hundred and went on to convert that into a double ton surpassing Steve Smith. The Australian batsman had scored 211 runs this year during Ashes 2019 whereas, Agarwal scored 215 runs.

# Sharma also holds the record of slamming the highest number of sixes in a Test match. The record was earlier held by Navjot Singh Sidhu who had hit 8 sixes in Lucknow in 1994.

# India spinner Ravindra Jadeja picked up his 200th Test wicket.

# The Indian opener also holds the record for most sixes in a single ODI and T20I among Indian cricketers. Hence, now he has a hat-trick of records for the most sixes in a single match in all the three formats for India.

# Faf du Plessis notched up his first half-century against India.

# Quinton de Kock became the first wicket-keeper batsman from South Africa to score a century.

# Dean Elgar brought up his first century against India.

Rohit Sharma went on to be the man of the match and after the match he said, “Just wanted to go out there and do what I do best. Great opportunity for me at the top. Thankful for the chance, considering I've never done that before. Focus was on winning the Test match and I think we pretty much did everything right today.” The second Test match will be played from October 10-14 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
