India vs South Africa, 1st Test 2019, Day 4 Stat Highlights: Ravichandran Ashwin & Rohit Sharma Steal the Show As Hosts Set a Target of 395 For Proteas

After scoring a total of 502 runs, it was the Indian bowlers who did the wonders and bundled out the South Africans on the score of 431 runs at the VDCA Stadium in Vishakhapatnam. Ravichandran Ashwin who last played a Test match in the December 2018 scalped seven wickets in the first innings. In the second innings, Rohit Sharma once again stole the show by scoring a century in the second innings.  Sharma made way into the pavilion after scoring 127 runs. Now before we get into the stat highlights of the match, let’s have a look at how the Day 4 panned out for both the teams.  India Vs South Africa, Live Cricket Score 1st Test. 

The day four belonged to the Indians as the hosts bundled out on the score of 431 with Ravichandran Ashwin snapped seven wickets in the first innings. The Indian batsmen dominated the show as they put up a total of 323 runs with Rohit Sharma scoring 127 runs and Cheteshwar Pujara making 81 runs. Ravindra Jadeja shifted gears and produced 40 runs from 31 balls hitting three sixes. The hosts now have a target of 395 runs. When South African stepped on to bat, they already lost one wicket in the form of Dean Elgar who was sent packing by Jaddu on the score of five.

As of now, the team has scored 11 runs for the loss of one wicket. Now, let’s have a look at the stat highlights:

#Rohit Sharma notched up his fifth century in the Tests.

#Rohit Sharma who scored a century in the second innings too crossed the average of 100.

#This is the ninth time, that an Indian has scored 300 runs in a Test match.

# Sharma also holds the record of slamming the highest number of sixes in a Test match. The record was earlier held by Navjot Singh Sidhu who had hit 8 sixes in Lucknow in 1994.

# The Indian opener also holds the record for most sixes in a single ODI and T20I among Indian cricketers. Hence, now he has a hat-trick of records for the most sixes in a single match in all the three formats for India

It would be interesting to see how the day five pans out for both teams as both of them would leave no stone to clinch victory. As of now, we have Aiden Markram and Theunis de Bruyn batting for the visiting team.
