Stumps on Day 1! What an exciting day of Test cricket it has been with India finishing on 16/1, trailing New Zealand by 243 runs. New Zealand won the toss and chose to bat first and India would be pretty happy that they bowled them out, for just 259 runs. Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway looked pretty impressive for New Zealand but the real star of the first innings was Washington Sundar. The all-rounder answered his critics in style, taking a seven-wicket haul. It was his first fifer in international cricket and he along with Ravi Ashwin, ensured that New Zealand did not put up too big a score. In the second innings, India got off to a careful start before Tim Southee castled Rohit Sharma. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill ensured that India did not have any more hiccups as play came to a close on Day 1.
