Indian cricket team’s opening batsman, Shikhar Dhawan has congratulated Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri for his 100th international match. Chhetri will be appearing in his 100th match later tonight as India take on Kenya in the 2018 Intercontinental Cup. Captain Sunil Chhetri becomes the second Indian after former striker Bhaichung Bhutia to achieve the feat of playing hundred international matches. Meanwhile, Dhawan also made a request to fans to support and watch the Indian football play in the stadium.

A few days back Chhetri in a heartfelt video message made a plea to fans to support the national football team by watching the matches in the stadium. The request came after Chhetri’s hat-trick helped India beat Chinese Taipei 5-0 in front of an empty stadium in Mumbai. India vs Kenya Football Match Tickets Sold Out, Sunil Chhetri Impact?

Dhawan, following in the footsteps of Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli and former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, requested fans to support the Indian football. “Congrats @chetrisunil11 on reaching the milestone of 100 caps for the country tonight. Requesting all football fans and sports fans in Mumbai to fill the stadium tonight as @IndianFootball takes on Kenya in the Intercontinental Cup,” Dhawan tweeted.

Earlier, Chhetri in a video message said: “I mean it’s not fun to criticise and abuse on the internet. Come to the stadium, do it on our face, scream at us, shout at us, abuse us, who knows one day we might change you guys, you might start cheering for us.” The video went viral as well.

Meanwhile, after crushing Chinese Taipei, the home side will be looking to continue their winning run as they face Kenya at the Mumbai Football Arena. Fans are expected to throng the stadium and support the home team. Reportedly, the tickets for the football match have been sold out.
