And with that, Day 2 comes to a close in this Test match. Ben Duckett's performance has been the highlight of the day with the diminutive opener smashing a magnificent century to put his side on top. He took apart the Indian bowling attack and scored boundaries at will to maintain a healthy scoring rate. The day was also special for Ravichandran Ashwin, who bagged his 500th Test wicket by dismissing Zak Crawley. England are now just 238 runs away and with Duckett still at the crease, the visitors will hope to continue the same way on Day 3. India on the other hand, would need to take some wickets early on the third day to come back in this contest.

Ben Duckett has continued his fine start and he nears a century in what would be a blistering knock. The southpaw has taken apart the Indian bowling attack and found the boundary at ease and quite frequently. Duckett has scored his first Test century of the series.ย

16 Feb, 15:14 (IST)

OUT! And Ravichandran Ashwin has 500 wickets in Test cricket, what a bowler! And he has provided the breakthrough, getting the wicket of Zak Crawley to become only the second Indian bowler to achieve this feat. Zak Crawley c Rajat Patidar b Ravichandran Ashwin 15(28)

FIFTY for Ben Duckett! The left-hander has blazed his way en route to a magnificent half-century off just 39 balls with 11 fours. He has provided England with a fiery start with Zak Crawley with the momentum clearly in favour of the visitors.ย

16 Feb, 14:45 (IST)

Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett have given England a fiery start to their first innings with the latter hitting a flurry of boundaries, en route toย 41 runs off 35 balls already. England are looking to put India under pressure early on and the opening duo have once again providing what seems to be the makings of a solid platform.ย

16 Feb, 14:36 (IST)

And it is tea on Day 2 with the England openers providing a good start to their team. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj hit the right lengths for India but both Duckett and Crawley capitalised on some loose deliveries. An interesting final session of play awaits us.ย

Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley are beginning the innings for England, on expected lines. Both batters would look to set up a good opening partnership and put India under pressure. England for the uninitiated, have begun with 5/0 at the start of the innings without scoring a run off the bat. Here's why.ย

16 Feb, 13:39 (IST)

OUT! Jasprit Bumrah has been trapped lbw and a DRS could not save him this time, with the DRS showing three reds. Mark Wood turned out to be the best bowler for England with four wickets but a lot of credit has to be given to the partnership between Ravichandran Ashwin and Dhruv Jurel, which took India past 400 after Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav were dismissed early on Day 2. The Jasprit Bumrah-Mohammed Siraj stand, which yielded 30 runs steered India close to 450 and it will be a total they are happy with. Jasprit Bumrah lbw b Mark Wood 26(28)ย

16 Feb, 13:30 (IST)

Mohammed Siraj seems to be a world of pain right now as he attempted a second run in the over bowled by Mark Wood. Siraj was earlier struck on his right knee and now, he is limping. This is not looking good for India with Siraj slated to bowl in the next innings.ย

16 Feb, 12:57 (IST)

OUT! And one more wicket has followed the other with Rehan Ahmed dismissing debutant Dhruv Jurel. The right-hander looked set to get to his maiden fifty in Tests in his debut innings but edged the ball with Ben Foakes taking a good catch.ย Dhruv Jurel c Ben Foakes b Rehan Ahmed 46(104)ย

16 Feb, 12:45 (IST)

OUT! England have a wicket again at the start of a session and Ravi Ashwin, who looked good for his 37, has to depart now. Ashwin went for a big shot but could not get the ball past mid-on with James Anderson taking a catch on his second attempt. This wicket came against the run of play. Ravi Ashwin c James Anderson b Rehan Ahmed 37(89)

16 Feb, 12:30 (IST)

Dhruv Jurel and Ravichandran Ashwin have resumed proceedings for India in the second session and they have managed to take this Indian total past 400. That would be a psychological advantage India would have wanted and now, the target would be to get as much as possible with three wickets in hand.ย

16 Feb, 11:37 (IST)

It has been an interesting phase of play in the first session on Day 2. England dealt India with a couple of early blows but India found two calm heads in Ravi Ashwin and Dhruv Jurel, who steadied the innings and ensured that no more wickets were lost. The Rajasthan Royals' duo added 57 runs for the eighth wicket and now, would look to continue in the same manner in the second session as India close in on 400.

16 Feb, 11:04 (IST)

A partnership is building here between Ravi Ashwin and Dhruv Jurel with both players having a cautious approach. India have lost two early wickets alright but these two players are looking to take India through to lunch without much damage. England meanwhile, would look to take out one of these two batters before the session ends.

16 Feb, 09:53 (IST)

OUT! Another wicket for England early on Day 2 with Joe Root dismissing Ravindra Jadeja. The left-hander chipped the ball straight to Root who took a simple catch on his follow-through. India have been rocked early and would need the Ravichandran Ashwin-Dhruv Jurel stand to yield some runs here. Ravindra Jadeja c and b Joe Root 112(225)

16 Feb, 09:46 (IST)

OUT! James Anderson has struck early on Day 2 and removed Kuldeep Yadav. The nightwatchman edged the ball with Ben Foakes taking a simple catch. India have lost a wicket early on Day 2 and all eyes on Ravindra Jadeja and debutant Dhruv Jurel now. Kuldeep Yadav c Ben Foakes b James Anderson 4(24)

India and England are engaged in a thrilling encounter in the third Test match of the five-match Test series at Rajkot. Day 1 of the Test match saw some strong batting performances paired with a few unique bowling strategies and some brain fade moments. India won the toss and opted to bat first in the match. They got off to a very poor start losing three wickets in no time. From there Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja built a solid partnership and took India out of trouble. Debutant Sarfaraz Khan scored quickly and added some important runs to the total. At the end of the Day, India are in a much better position than where they started after losing half their side.ย 'Suraj Apne Hi Samai Pe Niklega' Naushad Khan Narrates His Son Sarfaraz Khan's Journey As He Receives Debut Cap During IND vs ENG 3rd Test 2024 (Watch Video).

India's opening partnership was of short duration as they lost Yashasvi Jaiswal early. Shubman Gill, despite his good performance in the last Test match, faced the biggest Test as he was continuously troubled by Mark Wood and failed to add any runs to his account. India lost Rajat Patidar immediately after to Tom Hartley. As India looked down the barrel under good batting conditions, Joe Root dropped a catch of Rohit Sharma and the Indian captain didn't look back since then and ended up scoring a big century. He was well supported by Ravindra Jadeja who also scored a century after he was promoted up the order. India ended the day with a score of 326/5 which got a much-needed boost from debutant Safaraz Khan scoring a half-century.ย 'It Was My Wrong Call' Ravindra Jadeja Shares Instagram Story Admitting His Fault In Sarfaraz Khan's Run-Out During IND vs ENG 3rd Test 2024.

England on the other hand will be disappointed after letting go of such a good start. Not only did they drop Rohit's catch, but they also didn't review a dismissal when Ravindra Jadeja was on 93. They will look to come back strong in the first session on Day 2. India have not run away with the game given the last two wickets England picked in the final session but they still have some batting to come and a set Jadeja on the crease, Rehan Ahmed had a poor day and he leaked more runs than he would have wanted.ย  Meanwhile, for India, the target would be to spend more time on crease and frustrate England.
